Effluent Rules

Dairy effluent management can be a win-win situation for both the farmer and the environment. If dealt with correctly, irrigation of effluent can make good use of nutrients, organic matter and water without polluting streams and waterways.

The Resource Management Act (1991) was produced to give a basis for the "sustainable management of natural and physical resources". With this in mind regional councils have determined suitable regulations for dairy effluent management in their catchments.

Below are resources for specific regional council regulations, guidelines and recommendations.
